Drox Operative 2

  • Overall Drox Operative 2 is a fun top down spaceship flyer and shooter with 4x qualities to factions. Its on Steam
  • Its easy to judge an indie game, but it played better than I expected
  • There is always “jank” to learning a game, but there is certain options and knowledge that drastically effect the fun
  • In my opinion the best way to play is:
  • When choosing a race, click skill tree on the right side. Compare the races skill tree to see if it fits your preferred build
  • For sector settings, choose fast pacing, tiny sector size, 12 races, established sector settlement, line galaxy
  • When you level up, note there is a stat level up screen AND a skill level up menu
  • There is no skill reset. Meaning higher damage buffs in the skill tree that cost more points for more bonus, will be a larger boost maxed at level 5 late game
  • Tweak the sound effects and music, the sound is good and funky but a bit loud
  • In UI options to look at whether you want to change controls like WASD movement, mouse only facing and movement, or twin stick shooter style controller
  • Try to win your sector quickly, level up, and move on to another sector and set your difficulty based on level around hard
  • Don’t stay in a sector too long, focus on leveling up because it opens up new items, tech, options for your ship/build
  • Adding new component slots for your ship costs a lot of skill points, and will considerably slowdown your ship speed if your thruster isn’t strong
  • Balancing your build early on is important, once you gain more item options and component slots, you can tune your build with flexibility
  • The fun, tuning your build, and progression actually gets easier and faster the higher level you get
  • If you’re playing with 4x mechanics, make sure you to note the bottom two options (scroll down) for negotiations. There is free info or trade pact
  • You can change to a larger more undeveloped galaxy to enjoy 4x mechanics more, that just wasn’t my preferred style, and it costs money
  • The level cap is 200, and tons of room to progress or replay a different ship/race/build and style of play
  • You can unlock new races as you play, and some have unique skill trees.
  • Fun and inexpensive experience if you just want to fly around and blow stuff up
